His Excellency Dr. Abderrahim Kadmiri presented his credentials to His Excellency S.W. Tapley Seaton G.C.M.G., Q.C., C.V.O., JP, Governor General of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of His Majesty the King Mohamed VI to St. Kitts and Nevis on Friday 13th January 2017. The Ambassador also paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis.
St. Kitts and Nevis established diplomatic relations with the Kingdom of Morocco in 2007 and His Excellency Kadmiri is the first Moroccan Ambassador to present credentials.
In a brief engagement with the Moroccan diplomat, Sir Tapley Seaton expressed his appreciation to the Government of Morocco for establishing their physical presence in the OECS region and noted the Ambassador’s enthusiasm and willingness to pursue deeper cooperation.
In addition to discussing potential areas of cooperation such as agriculture, tourism and culture, during the courtesy call, the Honourable Dr. Timothy Harris was delighted to inform the newly accredited Moroccan diplomat that he served as Minister of Foreign Affairs and was at the fulcrum of the discussions that led to the eventual signing of the Federation’s diplomatic relations in the margins of the UN meeting in 2007.
The Foreign Minister welcomed the Ambassador’s pledge to consolidate the Federation’s relations with the Kingdom of Morocco as well as to deepen the bilateral cooperation between the two countries as outlined in several agreements signed between the two countries including:
- Roadmap on Cooperation Program between the Kingdom of Morocco and St Kitts and Nevis for the period 2013-2015 signed on February 4th
- The Framework Agreement on Economic, Technical, Scientific and Cultural Cooperation between the Government of the Kingdom of Morocco and the Government of the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis signed on June 5th
- The Memorandum of Understanding on the establishment of the political consultations mechanism between Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Kingdom of Morocco and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Aviation of the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis signed in April 2016.
Formerly, Excellency Kadmiri was the Director General of the Moroccan Agency for International Cooperation (AMCI); he therefore brings with him significant expertise that could prove beneficial to the strengthening of our bilateral cooperation.
The Federation looks forward to continued cooperation in areas such as agriculture, tourism, vocational training opportunities, and renewable energy.
