Argentinean Ambassador, H.E. Ariel Fernandez bids farewell to the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis

Basseterre–Friday 28th April, 2017 — On Friday 28th April, 2017, the outgoing nonresident Argentine Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to St. Kitts and Nevis, His Excellency Ariel Fernandez paid a farewell call on the Governor General, H.E. Sir Samuel Weymouth Tapley Seaton, GCMG, CVO, QC, JP.

Ambassador Fernandez, career diplomat, has served in Argentina’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 1994, in a number of capacities within missions in Europe and is currently based in Kingston, Jamaica.  Ambassador Fernandez, presented credentials to the Governor General of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, in 2013, after the commencement of dialogue on strengthening friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries which prompted the signing a Draft Agreement on Technical  Cooperation.  St Kitts and Nevis and Argentina established diplomatic relations in 1992.

During the visit of Ambassador Fernandez, Governor General, Sir Tapley Seaton expressed his appreciation to the Ambassador Fernandez for his service and his contributions exhibited during his tenure as Ambassador to the Federation particularly to him being an instrumental force in the signing of the Technical Cooperation Agreement, thereby further strengthening south-south cooperation.

Ambassador Fernandez also conveyed his gratitude, as well as his satisfaction with the progress of the continued deepened relations and friendship between both countries.  He also expressed his Government’s interest in partnering with the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis in various bilateral and triangular projects, together with the advancement of relations in specific areas   inclusive of Agriculture, Water Management, Culture, Creative Industries etc.  Farewell calls was also paid upon the Minister of Agriculture, Health, National Insurance et al, the Honorable Eugene Hamilton and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Aviation, Ms. Kaye Bass.

The outgoing Ambassador also informed that the Government of Argentina had appointed H.E. Luis Beltran Martinez Thomas as the new non-resident Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Argentina to the Federation of Saint Christopher and Nevis.  He will be based at the Embassy of Argentina in Castries, St. Lucia.
